Tim Wallace is a Graduate Research Assistant at the National Center for Landscape Fire Analysis, College of Forestry and Conservation, University of Montana.
I started my career in fire in 1997 at Spotted Bear RD on a fuels crew. I moved up to the Flathead Hotshots in 1998 and again in 1999. I then took a four-year hiatus in the Navy. I returned to the Hotshots in 2004 and 2005 before becoming a smokejumper out of Missoula in 2006 and 2007. My interest in fire science started in the Navy, using remote sensing and GIS data as tools for mission planning. Seeing this applied to fire while taking Lloyd's class piqued my interest in the Fire Center and using science as a tool for fire management. I'm working under the tutelage of several people on the Lubrecht lidar data set, examining ground fuels and possible fire behavior.
