Located at The University of Montana, the NCLFA utilizes tthe research expertise of highly skilled graduate and undergraduate students, faculty from various disciplines, and collaborative research efforts with other academic and research institutions.Selway-Salmon WFU, 2005 These relationships ensure that the Center's scientific products are developed within the rigorous standards of academic review and that the products and applications are built on the most current technologic and scientific developments within the field. Current graduate students are listed below. The Fire Center has hosted a number of undergraduate students, who have assisted in research for the GIS and remote sensing programs.

The Fire Center also leads a variety of national trainings on wildland fire and technology topics, including GIST training, WFSA training, S courses, NIROP courses, and more. The NCLFA staff have presented their research findings at GIS conferences, the fire behavior and fuels conferences, and to other project partners.
