Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex GIS
Go BackOccurring over four National Forests and the adjacent Glacier National Park, the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex (BMWC) covers over 1.5 million acres. Each Forest as well as Glacier Park uses a distinct protocol for managing resource data. In support of revisions to the wilderness Fire Use handbook, the NCLFA created a seamless, all-ownership GIS -- the first ever created for the Complex.
The BMWC GIS includes geographic data and maps for the Bob Marshall Wilderness, excluding Glacier National Park. The GIS maps templates were created around three fire management-related themes. These map themes are: Vicinity, Flight Hazard, and Suppression/Fire Perimeter. Data layers in the GIS include:
- Airports
- Airsheds
- Airshed Impact Zones
- Aviation Sectionals
- Cities and Towns
- Continental Divide
- Contours
- Cutthroat and Bull Trout Status
- DEMs (30m and 1km resolutions)
- DOQQs
- DRGs
- Fire History
- Flight Hazards
- Geographic Named Places
- Government Facilities (USFS Buildings including Ranger Stations)
- Hillshade
- Hydrography
- Outfitter Camps
- PLSS, Township-Range
- State and County boundaries
- Stewardship
- USFS Boundaries (Forests and Districts)
- Other Federal Lands
