Fire Severity on the Rocky Mountain Ranger District, South Fork of the Sun River Prescribed Fire, Montana
Go BackThe South Fork of the Sun prescribed fire is the largest and most comprehensive fire treatment effort ever attempted in the Northern Rockies. The Center has worked with the Lewis and Clark National Forest to assess pre-fire conditions so that resource accomplishments can be measured once the burn has been completed.
The pre-fire characterization of the 23,000 acre unit has involved satellite as well as aircraft remote sensing as well as installation of long-term vegetation monitoring plots.
