Northern Rockies Fire Restrictions Web Application project

Go BackIn 2007, a subcommittee of the Northern Rockies Coordinating Group (NRCG) asked the NCLFA to lead the Northern Rockies Fire
Restrictions Web Application project. The NRCG prevention and education committee wants to develop a web-enabled database to house fire restrictions information in the Northern Rockies and to display this information to the public via a web site. Restrictions that limit the public's ability to do things such as use chain saws, have campfires and access public lands are put in place during fire season, depending on fire danger. Coordinators enter new information weekly into the restrictions database, which the public can view through an interactive map on the public web site. The database and web site, hosted on a National Interagency Fire Center server, will be operational by fire season 2008. The initiation of this project prompted the creation of a national fire restrictions clearinghouse web site that houses links to eleven geographic area's regional restrictions information; the Northern Rockies site is the only with a web-enabled database and interactive map. The public can search for restrictions information using a map, instead of having to search by jurisdiction. Additionally, Inciweb, the national fire information web site, will contain a feed of the restrictions maps.
